About the University:
1. Founded in 1963 as an independent, Catholic
University by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of
Bridgeport.
2. SHU has been selected for membership in the
2014-2015 Colleges of Distinction, among approximately 300 colleges and
universities in the country recognized for outstanding student engagement,
great teaching, vibrant communities and successful student outcomes.
3. The 2015-2016 student body is made up of
8,235 total students: 4,435 full-time undergraduate students, 770 part-time
undergraduate students, 3,030 graduate students; 68% female, 54% out of
state; 16% minority students, 50 states including District of Columbia and
one military base (AE) and 32 countries represented.
4. The top four states in which first-year
undergraduate students, or first-time-in-college freshmen, and their families
permanently reside are New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
